MassMutual Awards the $10,000 to Honor Volunteer Efforts of Philadelphia Based Financial Planner
Philadelphia, PA, July 30, 2015 – Tree House Books, has received a $10,000 grant from Massachusetts Mutual Life Insurance Company (MassMutual) as part of its national Community Service Award (CSA) program. Tree House Books is one of only 17 organizations nationally to receive an award. MassMutual made the grant on behalf of the volunteer efforts of Certified Family Business Specialist, Andrew Starfield. Andrew has been with First Financial Group in Philadelphia for six years.
“MassMutual’s Community Service Awards program aims to encourage and recognize those financial professionals who are active members of their community,” said Nick Fyntrilakis, Vice President of Community Responsibility, MassMutual. “Andrew’s volunteer work reflects MassMutual’s steadfast commitment to supporting organizations in the communities where our financial professionals live and work.”
Tree House Books is committed to growing and sustaining a community of readers, writers, and thinkers in North Central Philadelphia. At the end of 2014, the eightyear-old organization had distributed 65,000 free books and has empowered neighborhood youth ages 6-14 to build their literacy skills by engaging them in thorough and consistent reading, and by assisting them in applying these skills to all aspects of their intellectual, emotional, and cultural development.
“This grant is instrumental in our efforts to change the educational trajectory of the underserved youth in our community,” explained Michael Reid, Executive Director, Tree House Books. “The funds will be used to purchase new books, supplies and programmatic resources for the growing number of students we serve.”
Andrew, a life-long resident of Philadelphia, has dedicated countless hours of his time and talent to help Tree House Books grow and flourish. He currently serves on the Board of Directors and is a member of the Financial Committee, which oversees the fiscal stewardship of the organization.
“I am excited that MassMutual has recognized my efforts with such a significant grant,” explained Andrew. “I see first-hand the difference every dollar contributed to Tree House Books makes in helping students gain proficiency in reading, which will pave the way to a brighter future for not only the students it serves but for the entire community,” he added.
