2019 Was Extraordinary | A Letter from Our President and CEO

As MassMutual Greater Philadelphia continues to grow, we have one focus in mind: The impact we have on our community as we create extraordinary opportunities so that dreams become reality. We had a fantastic year of growth and I'm excited to share with you some of the highlights from 2019.

We celebrated our second annual Family Fun Day at the Philadelphia Zoo, supporting Easterseals of Southeastern Pennsylvania’s Walk with Me. One of our core tenants is to “Create an environment that feels like home, by ensuring our team members’ families are an extension of our own MMGP family,” and this day gives us the opportunity to come together from across the region to enjoy a day of fun with our associates and their families.

We hosted our 15th annual Special Needs Awareness Night with the Philadelphia Phillies and expanded the program to include an inaugural event with the Lehigh Valley IronPigs. When we started this program, we had no idea the impact that it would make on our clients, the community and ourselves. This year, we hosted over 950 people with disabilities, caregivers and families for a night out at the ballpark and to date we’ve hosted over 8,5000 people. These events have brought us and others tremendous joy. We look forward to continuing this program for years to come.

We hosted our sixth annual summer internship program with 18 students, of which 50% were women. The program’s mission is to celebrate our “home grown” talent by developing future leaders and helping to launch fulfilling careers in the financial services sector. Candidates for the program are selected from over 400 applicants and are invited to participate in an eight-week rotational program that is comprised of classroom curriculum and direct mentorship with the firm’s experienced advisors.

We were a proud sponsor of three “Best Of” events: Best of Delaware, Best of the Lehigh Valley and Best of the Main Line. Small businesses are the backbone of our community and we were honored to support and celebrate their contributions. These programs value and recognize the integrity, quality and commitment that these business offer, while providing products and services that improve people's lives and fuel the economic growth of the region.

We hosted over 100 community workshops, seminars and events to help our neighbors get the knowledge and insight they need to make better financial decisions and achieve financial well-being. Financial well-being, as defined by the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau1 means: having control over day-to-day, month-to-month finances; having the capacity to absorb a financial shock; being on track to meet financial goals and having the financial freedom to make choices that allow one to enjoy life.  We are honored to be a resource and look forward to offering more workshops in 2020.

We launched MMGP’s Pro-Growth Movement to better support our female advisors and create a more inclusive environment for our advisors and clients. Did you know women control 50% of all private wealth and while 87% of women want to work with a financial advisor, only 17% do2?  We believe there's a massive opportunity for women in the financial services industry and we’re committed to providing a supportive environment where all individuals can pursue their respective dreams and thrive in their careers.

The impact we're making on the Greater Philadelphia and Lehigh Valley regions is profound. Over the past three years, we have paid out over $140 million in life insurance proceeds3 to our client’s beneficiaries, over $14 million of disability insurance claims4 and over $55 million of dividends to our clients that own whole life insurance5.

Our firm now has 25 office locations, with over 175 financial advisors and 50 staff members, all focused on our single mission: to create extraordinary opportunities so that dreams become reality.

All of these highlights would not be possible without tremendous support from our associates, our clients and the community. Thank you for all that you've done to help make 2019 extraordinary!

Best wishes to you and your family throughout the holiday season and the best is yet to come.
